New Orleans Warrant Records and NOPD

The New Orleans Police Department is the main law enforcement body for the city. NOPD headquarters sits at 715 South Broad Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. The non-emergency phone line is (504) 821-2222. Officers there handle arrest warrants that come from any court with jurisdiction over the area. You can call and ask about a case, but be aware that asking about your own active warrant may lead to a response from law enforcement.

The Records and Identification Division is on the first floor at 715 S. Broad Street. Call (504) 658-5455 to reach them. Hours run Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This division processes public records requests tied to arrests, incidents, and warrant service. There is also a Public Records Section at 1615 Poydras Street, New Orleans, LA 70112, reachable at (504) 658-5080. You can submit requests online at nola.gov/nopd/citizen-services/records.

Orleans Parish Sheriff and Warrant Enforcement

The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office at 2800 Perdido Street, New Orleans, LA 70119 is the other key agency for warrant records. Call (504) 202-9339 for the main line or (504) 827-6777 for their information line. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. OPSO has an online detainee search at opso.gov. You can search by name or booking number. Results show charges, warrant bond amounts, and next court dates. This tool shows who is in custody on warrant records. It does not list all outstanding warrant records. A person can have an active warrant but not yet be in jail. For a full warrant records status check, call the sheriff's office directly.

Note: The OPSO detainee search only covers people currently booked at the Orleans Justice Center, not all people with outstanding warrant records in Orleans Parish.

The Clerk Connect system lets you search criminal case records from Orleans Parish Criminal District Court. Go to crimesurvivorsnola.org/findmycase and enter a name or case number. For broader searches, the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information runs the Internet Background Check at ibc.dps.louisiana.gov. The IBC costs $31 total. Types of Warrants in New Orleans

Several kinds of warrants get issued in New Orleans. Each type has its own rules under Louisiana warrant records law.

Arrest warrant records come from a judge when law enforcement shows probable cause of a crime. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Art. 202 sets the basis for these warrants. NOPD or OPSO deputies then serve them. Once signed, the warrant goes into the state law enforcement system so any officer in Louisiana can act on it.

Bench warrants issue when someone misses a court date or violates a court warrant order. They are common in New Orleans. If you fail to appear for a hearing at the Criminal District Court or Municipal Court, the judge will likely sign a bench warrant record. You can sometimes clear one by going to court on your own or having an attorney file a motion to recall it.

Search warrants let officers search a specific place. These records are often sealed while the warrant case is active. They do not show up in standard warrant record searches.
